I put off registering for the Kettle Moraine 100 for quite a while, and it turns out that was for the best, because I’ve decided not to run it.
I’m a little disappointed. I’m really looking forward to my first ultra, and I thought I’d finally found one that was relatively nearby and fit into my schedule. But I’m still recovering from an injury. True, I’m making slow progress–see today’s run for example–but I doubt I’d really be ready to run 100 miles in time.
That’s not my big news, though.
I’m probably going to run the 50 mile Nashville Ultra Marathon in October. It’s the longest race they offer, and I’m certain I’ll be ready in time.
But that’s not the big news, either.
I also plan on running a few regular marathons in Nashville and in other cities around the state. Because I got a job at a school down in Tennessee, meaning goodbye graduate school.
That’s the big news.
Between finishing my dissertation, defending it, moving, and everything else, there just isn’t the time or the money for Kettle. And although that is disappointing–I wanted to start big with 100 miles, run it with Rob, etc.–I’m so excited about what’s coming instead.
Now to finish that other ultra… my dissertation…
Awesome news, congrats! I think your plans are wise, and you’ll do great in the 50. Good luck w/your training!
What school? If you’ll be in the Nashville area, I’d love to buy you a coffee or hamburger
and welcome you to our fair city! Hope to meet you in person, I’ve been humbled by the miles you log and enjoy following your training.
