Some interesting thoughts on getting passed over at Runner’s World. I care, but I don’t care too much.
Ok, that’s not entirely accurate. I like passing slower runners and joggers. Even better than passing somebody quickly, though, is catching up with somebody over the course of a couple miles. That’s a sense of accomplishment. Or passing somebody on a big hill… that’s gotta be one of my favorite parts about running races.
But when somebody else passes me, I don’t care too much. Mostly because in non-race situations I rationalize it: I figure I’ve probably already run twice as far as the speedy guy or gal who passed me will run total!
