Racing Weight

Racing Weight, by Matt FitzgeraldAs somebody who took up running to lose weight, I’ve often wondered about the relationship between my weight and my performance. Obviously losing excess body fat has, for the most part, increased my ability to run faster and longer. But at a certain point losing weight means losing muscle. How do I find that ideal point?

I don’t really read books about running, but I think that might change with Matt Fitzgerald’s Racing Weight: How to Get Lean for Peak Performance. The author shared a little preview of the book over at RunNow, and it was enough to pique my interest.

What’s in the book? Apparently it starts with Part I on “Finding Your Racing Weight”. Part II lays out the “Five Steps to your Racing Weight” (improve diet quality, balance energy sources, time nutrition, manage appetite, train right), and Part III, “The Racing Weight Menu”, includes sample food journals, recipes, and more.

If (when?) I read it I’ll be sure to report on it.
