Recently I started doing something I probably should have been doing for quite some time now: soaking in ice-cold water after long runs. The benefits were tangible immediately: reduced swelling (not that I had much) and, more importantly, faster recovery times (i.e. less stiffness and soreness).
Only problem? It’s cold. So when I get in, I sometimes can’t help but vocalize that fact. That means after my runs one can hear the occasional “woo hoo” or “my toes!” floating through the house.
And does my wife sympathize with my ten minutes of suffering? No. Each time I let loose a yelp or cry on account of the cold she laughs at me.
At least the dogs are always concerned, if somewhat startled.
